A Miracle Waiting To Happen
Cabot’s Miracle Hill inspired Michael Bickford. They both inspired me to return to Miracle Springs Resort & Spa in Desert Hot Springs, CA.
In roughly 1913-14, when visiting folks traveled to see Cabot, his directions finished with, “If you’re out in the middle of nowhere, and you don’t know where you are, you’re there.”
Naturally, as with any homesteader, Cabot was pressed for water, so he grabbed his pick and shovel to dig a well where he discovered his famous HOT mineral waters. Nearby, he dug a second well, to find the COLD water aquifer. Cabot himself claimed these waters were on his “Miracle Hill”.
According to Palm Springs legend, notorious Al Capone used Two Bunch Palms as his West Coast hideout. Legends says during Prohibition, he had a sentry tower with armed bodyguards and underground escape tunnels, marked with bullet holes. Frank Sinatra called it home, as well and a few presidents. It’s because of Hollywood’s rich and famous residents that their hospital and medical system is one of the highest. www.cabotsmuseum.org
Michael’s faith in miracles kept both spas open during the pandemic. His motto at Miracle Springs Resort and Spa is on the wall, “Arrive As A Guest, Leave As A Friend, And Return as Family”. www.MiracleSprings.com
Today, Michael continues to enjoys being a hands-on CEO of two of only a handful of spas and private inns with the purest water-fed directly from Desert Hot Springs miraculous, hot and cold aquifers. Dessert Hot Springs Spa Hotel.
Both are within a mile of Cabot’s Springs on Miracle Hill.
Nice, affordable, spacious rooms for an over night or two, Private villas, perfect for family reunions or retreats. Spa services offer varied healing modalities at down-to-earth prices. And, the tubs are open 24hrs., which most aren’t. www.MiracleSprings.com
The only mineral waters in SPA City, Desert Hot Springs. Unless you’re looking for a quick soak in the mineral waters at one of the Indian Hotel Casinos in Palm Springs, (for a fancy fee and a short amount of time).
Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indio, and Cathedral City are not on the same water system.
More Tips:
The Carl’s Jr/Slater Bros Mall on Palm Dr. at Hacienda has a water dispensary in the corner. Bring some water jugs to fill up and use while visiting and to take home.
At the same mall, just a few doors down, is the LaAbuelita Mexican Bakery, which will surely surprise you with beautiful cakes, pastries, the best croissants ever and fresh in-house pizzas. Best to Google them and call in your order for pick up. The croissants aren’t ready till late morning and once they’re gone, they gone for the day. I usually stop in for a take home on my way out of town too.
Just up the hill on Hacienda is one of the latest and most desirable locations in Health and Wellness: See for yourself: www.azurepalmhotsprings.com

The mineral waters at Two Bunch Palms flow from a 600 year-old natural spring that recharges every 24 hours. The water emerges from the earth at over 100 degrees. It’s the perfect place for luxury solo getaways, family and business retreats. This discreet property has been recently updated, and is a full service 4-star hotel.
I recently discovered, Miracle Manor, across from Cabot’s Lodge. It’s now one of my favorite places for a retreat – complete with peaceful trails and beautiful views. You can choose from, sound baths, yoga, massage and maybe a painting class www.MiracleManor.com
The Springs Hotel – new to me but over the years, I’ve heard a lot about it and stopped in a few times for a look-around. Well, apparently, it’s a happening place with monthly membership passes as well as day passes – www.The-Spring.com
Desert Hot Springs Inn – is where my American adventure began. Stuck in the states during COVID, I recaled, ages ago, (when I was a card carrying member of the International Food & Travel Writers Assoc.) I joined a group of writers for a few days of the Palm Springs experience.
We watched “the” tennis matches, followed by a delectable, art directed, dining experience, prepared by a private chef in one of the most fabulous, and famous, homes, overlooking the city of Palm Springs. That evening we stayed at Mircale Springs Resort and Spa,
During COVID, I was looking for Desert Hot Springs Resort and Spa when I came upon the Desert Hot Springs and Inn website:https://www.deserthotspringsinn.com/ They just happened to be hosting the Choachella Valley Cannabis Association. What? I invited myself, in as a journalist, and eventually, became a a member.
